Volunteer Spotlight: A Fresh Start to a Long Day

Volunteer 1Each day begins very early for so many at SECU Family House. The night guard ends the evening’s shift at 6:15 AM as the first staff arrives. Guests are in the kitchen pouring their first cups of coffee. Some return to the House after spending the night at the hospital with their loved ones, while others prepare to begin a long day of treatment.

A couple mornings each week you’ll find one of the many breakfast groups cooking a nutritious and delicious meal for our guests. Recently, Pre-Registration Heartbeats, a fairly new team at UNC Hospitals that provides pre-service estimates for patients, was led by Keisha Tyler (left) to create an amazing breakfast that included fresh fruit, bacon, pancakes, and juice - all to the delight of our guests and staff.

Volunteer 2As dishwashers were loaded and guests gathered belongings to take the city bus or hospital van to the hospital, full tummies ensured that guests were energized to begin another full day. We thank the Heartbeats from the bottom of our hearts for kicking the early morning off to a great start. We hope to see them again real soon!
