FAMILY HOUSE GUEST — Miller Abernethy

A few years ago, Miller Abernethy had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was successfully treated for that in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina.  Unfortunately, earlier this year, consequent testing showed that the cancer had spread to his shoulder and kidney, so Miller decided to seek medical care at UNC Hospitals under the care of Dr. Matthew Nielsen, a urologic oncologist, Dr. Ethan Basch, medical oncologist, and a host of other medical professionals.

While Miller stayed with us, he received radiation to target the cancer and also began treatments for coronary artery disease.

Asked what his stay has been like here, Miller shared that “cancer can be a complete surprise.” Staying at Family House has been “welcoming and comforting.”  “It has provided a lot of stability for me and the staff has been wonderful”  Having “lots of good discussions with guests here and getting first-rate medical care” has made all the difference for him and his family.

Our hope for Miller, as with for all of our guests, is that the road to recovery, while bumpy and unexpected at times, continues to go well for this self-effacing corporate finance lawyer from the Queen City.
