Our Hope

At our safe, affordable home, patients and families who travel great distances for health care share normalcy in the midst of upheaval, and reassurance amid uncertainty.

As UNC Hospitals and its system of care throughout the state continue to grow, Family House is a critical link in alleviating barriers to accessing the highest-quality health care. Our 40 rooms are in constant use, and we turn away two of every three guests who are referred by a patient's medical care team.

With your support, we will add more space and a larger support network, and impact the health of more patients and families in North Carolina and beyond. We invite you to join our Share the House expansion campaign and help give hope a home for more families.

Our Plans

We will add a new wing to the existing house, nearly doubling our total number of rooms from 40 to 75. We will increase capacity with more family suites and by designing the new standard rooms for two queen beds. The new wing will include a common area, laundry facilities and a maintenance area. In the existing house, we will expand the kitchen and front desk reception area.

Outside the house, we are adding new walking trails for exercise, meditation and respite. The University of North Carolina is generously extending our lease and providing an additional three acres on the west side of the property. The paths through this wooded tract of land will help guests improve their own health without having to leave our property.
