Why Give?

SECU Family House is the sole agency providing affordable, supportive housing to UNC Hospitals’ adult critical care patients and their family members and caregivers. We provide 40 private bedrooms with private baths to patients—and caregivers—receiving treatment for: cancer; stem cell or organ transplant; life-threatening burns; trauma; invasive surgery; serious eating disorders; and other critical care.

How Do You Help Fill the Gap in Funding?

  • We receive no operating funds from federal, state, or municipal agencies.
  • We depend on individuals, local businesses, corporate and foundation grants for the bulk of our funding.
  • Our operating cost per available room per night is currently $56.48.
  • The average contribution from guests is $23 per available room per night.
  • Every gift of $33 provides lodging and food for one family for a night.
